The Minnesota Vikings made a roster move on Tuesday, signing defensive lineman Jalen Redmond as a free agent. In a corresponding move, the team decided to release wide receiver Devron Harper.

Redmond comes to the Vikings after playing for the UFL’s Arlington Renegades this past spring. During his time with the Renegades, he showcased his skills by recording 18 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in just four games. The young talent initially entered the NFL in 2023 when he signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent from the University of Oklahoma. Although he participated in the Panthers’ offseason program, he was ultimately waived in August.

During his college career at Oklahoma, Redmond demonstrated his abilities on the field by posting impressive numbers. He accumulated 71 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries while starting in 19 out of the 36 games he played from 2018 to 2022. With his experience and potential, the Vikings are hopeful that Redmond can make a significant impact on their defensive line.

On the other hand, Devron Harper, who joined the Vikings this spring as an undrafted rookie free agent from Mercer University, has been released by the team. While Harper showed promise during his time with the Vikings, the organization made the tough decision to part ways with the young wide receiver.

As the Vikings continue to make adjustments to their roster, fans are eager to see how these moves will shape the team for the upcoming season. With training camp on the horizon, the competition for roster spots will undoubtedly intensify, and players like Jalen Redmond will have the opportunity to prove themselves on the field.

It will be interesting to see how Redmond adapts to the Vikings’ defensive scheme and if he can capitalize on his potential to become a key contributor for the team. As for Harper, he will now have to explore other opportunities in the NFL as he aims to continue his professional football career. Stay tuned for more updates as the Vikings prepare for the upcoming season.
