Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. will be sitting out the upcoming game against the New York Giants due to a hamstring injury. This will be the second game in the last four that Robinson will miss. Throughout the week, Robinson was limited in practice as he dealt with the hamstring issue. Despite hopes that he would be able to play on Sunday, the team ultimately decided that he was not yet ready to return to the field.
This is not the first time Robinson has been sidelined this season. In Week 6, he was unable to play in the game against the Baltimore Ravens due to a right knee injury. As the leading rusher for Washington, Robinson has accumulated 461 yards on the ground and scored six touchdowns so far this season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
In preparation for Robinson’s absence, the Commanders elevated Chris Rodriguez Jr. from the practice squad on Saturday. Rodriguez, in his second year with the team, is expected to take on some of the power running responsibilities that Robinson typically handles. Additionally, Washington has Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols in the running back rotation, with both primarily serving as third-down backs. Ekeler has rushed for 240 yards and caught 19 passes for 207 yards, while McNichols has contributed 163 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns.
Despite Robinson’s absence, the Commanders are looking to maintain their winning momentum with a record of 6-2. The team will need to rely on their depth at the running back position to fill the void left by Robinson’s injury and secure a victory against the Giants. Fans will be watching closely to see how the team adjusts to this setback and how the running back committee steps up in Robinson’s absence.
