Trent Brown is not only a talented NFL player but also a dedicated cattle rancher. Despite not playing for the Dallas Cowboys, he has a deep connection to tending cattle. Recently, the Cincinnati Bengals brought him on board to protect their star quarterback, Joe Burrow. However, when he’s not on the field, Brown can be found at his ranch in Bastrop, Texas, where he is working on building a successful livestock enterprise that he hopes will continue to generate revenue long after his football career is over.
In a recent interview, Brown expressed his passion for ranching, stating that he sees it as his life’s work after football. He envisions himself being completely hands-on and immersed in cowboy life every day. The 6-foot-8, 380-pound right tackle gained attention on social media for a video of him riding horseback at a nearby arena, showcasing his love for horses and ranching.
Growing up in a military family, Brown developed a fondness for livestock and agriculture at a young age. He bought his ranch in 2021 as a personal project but soon realized the potential for it to become a thriving business. Renamed The Brown Ranch, his operation includes over 90 Brangus cattle and nearly two dozen performance horses. With the help of hired farmhands, Brown manages the day-to-day operations of the ranch, even while balancing his NFL responsibilities.
Looking ahead, Brown has big plans for expanding his ranching business. He aims to own multiple ranches and diversify his revenue streams through ventures like horse boarding and agri-tourism. Additionally, he is focused on growing his herd of bulls and perfecting his meat production channel to supply high-quality cattle to consumers.
Despite his success in the NFL, Brown is aware of the financial challenges that many athletes face post-retirement. He hopes that his ranching business will not only be self-sustainable but also provide a stable source of income for his future. His passion for ranching goes beyond profits, as he also seeks to raise awareness about the history of Black cowboys and encourage others, including fellow NFL players, to explore the financial benefits of farming.
In addition to his business aspirations, Brown is preparing to enter the world of competition with his quarter horses participating in futurity next October. This competition offers substantial prize money and a chance for Brown to showcase his horses’ abilities. He also aims to use his platform to introduce children to the world of ranching and highlight the contributions of Black cowboys and cowgirls.
As Brown continues to balance his NFL career with his ranching endeavors, he hopes to inspire others to consider alternative career paths outside of professional sports.
