Portland Timbers forward Dairon Asprilla bid farewell to the team after a decade of playing. The 32-year-old veteran was transferred to Atletico Nacional in Colombia, his home country. During his time with the Timbers, Asprilla scored 33 goals and provided 20 assists in 203 MLS matches, with 114 of those as a starter.
Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy expressed gratitude for Asprilla’s contributions to the team, mentioning that his impact will be remembered by fans. Asprilla’s knack for creating unexpected moments on the field endeared him to supporters, and his work ethic and selflessness will be missed by the team.
In the current season, Asprilla played 19 matches, starting in seven of them, and recorded one goal and three assists. He joined the ranks of Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri as the third player in Timbers’ history to achieve at least 20 goals and 20 assists in his career. Additionally, Asprilla reached a milestone of 200 appearances in MLS regular season play with the Timbers on May 29, putting him in the company of club legends like Diego Chara, Darlington Nagbe, and Valeri.
Asprilla’s departure marks the end of an era for the Portland Timbers, but it also opens up new opportunities for him with Atletico Nacional. His legacy with the team will be cherished, and fans will look back on his time with fondness. We wish Dairon Asprilla all the best in his future endeavors and thank him for his dedication and hard work over the years.
