Boston Celtics guard Derrick White found himself in a bit of trouble during a recent Colorado football game against Colorado State. A video obtained by TMZ showed White getting hit in the head by a spinning backfist during the game, which ended with Colorado’s 28-9 victory.

During the Celtics Media Day, White expressed his regret for being involved in the altercation, stating that he never expected to find himself in such a situation. He clarified that he was not actually hit, but rather, the incident involved a CSU fan knocking his hat off. White acknowledged that it was an unfortunate situation and mentioned that he should not have been there in the first place. Despite the incident, he emphasized that he is moving on from it.

According to a witness, the altercation began with a verbal argument between White and CSU fans during the second quarter. As the game progressed and it became evident that White’s team was going to emerge victorious, the situation escalated. A man wearing a CSU hat and a Utah shirt struck White in the head, knocking off his hat and sparking a larger physical altercation involving multiple individuals. Law enforcement eventually intervened to end the scuffle, allowing White to leave the scene unharmed.

Despite the off-court incident, White had a successful season with the Celtics, averaging 15.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. He was also named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for the second consecutive year and represented Team USA in their gold medal-winning campaign at the Olympics. Looking ahead, White and the Celtics are preparing for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season, set to commence on Oct. 22 against the New York Knicks.
