Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson tragically lost his life in a car crash that took place in Maryland. Jackson, who was only 24 years old, was one of three individuals who passed away in a three-car collision in Prince George’s County, as confirmed by the Maryland State Police. The Vikings organization expressed deep sadness over the loss of Jackson, with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah stating, “I am heartbroken by the loss of Khyree.” Adofo-Mensah highlighted Jackson’s determination to achieve his goals and become the best version of himself.

Jackson, who was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, had a collegiate football career that included playing at Alabama and Oregon. Oregon’s head coach, Dan Lanning, paid tribute to Jackson on social media, expressing his sorrow and admiration for the young athlete. Jackson was poised to compete for a starting cornerback position at the Vikings’ upcoming training camp in Eagan, Minnesota.

The devastating crash also claimed the lives of Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24, who were former teammates of Jackson at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School. Hazel, who played college football at Maryland and Charlotte, was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, with Jackson and Lytton as passengers. The trio had previously achieved state championships together in high school.

According to the Maryland State Police, the crash occurred when a second vehicle traveling north attempted to change lanes at a high speed, resulting in a collision with Hazel’s car and a third vehicle. While the occupants of the other two vehicles escaped unharmed, Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities are investigating the incident, considering alcohol as a potential contributing factor, and are contemplating charges in consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The football community mourns the loss of these promising young athletes, with Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell expressing his condolences to Jackson’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of Khyree Jackson, Isaiah Hazel, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., as they navigate this difficult time.
