Jayden Daniels was a limited participant in Washington Commanders practice Wednesday while dealing with a rib injury. Despite the pain, the rookie quarterback is pushing through and taking his recovery one day at a time.
“I’m still intact,” Daniels said. “I feel good.”
Daniels sustained the injury during a game against Carolina when he took a hard hit and landed awkwardly. Since then, he has been working with the team’s medical staff to manage the pain and facilitate healing. Despite the soreness in his ribs, Daniels managed to lead the Commanders to victory over Chicago with a Hail Mary touchdown pass.
During Wednesday’s practice, Daniels participated in a light session with no pads. The team is cautiously optimistic that he will be able to play against the New York Giants on Sunday. However, there is no set timeline for when his ribs will fully recover.
“I wish I knew,” Daniels said. “It’s just how I feel daily, how I wake up and how I’m able to move around. And the organization here has a great plan, so I’m trusting that and following it.”
Coach Dan Quinn emphasized the importance of monitoring Daniels’ injury throughout the season to ensure that he does not aggravate it further. In addition to Daniels, rookie left tackle Brandon Coleman, who missed the last game due to a concussion, was also limited in practice. Veteran Cornelius Lucas, who had been filling in for Coleman, did not practice due to a left ankle injury. Linebacker Freddie Luvu was also sidelined with a shin injury.
Despite the challenges posed by injuries, the Commanders are focused on maintaining their momentum and improving their record this season. Daniels’ resilience and determination to play through the pain serve as an inspiration to his teammates and fans alike. As the team prepares to face the Giants, all eyes will be on Daniels and his ability to lead the Commanders to another victory.
