New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh recently announced that star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is unlikely to play in any of the team’s three preseason games. The Jets are scheduled to face the Commanders, Panthers, and Giants in August. However, Rodgers seemed surprised by Saleh’s decision, stating that he was unaware of the plans to keep him sidelined during the preseason.

Despite not participating in preseason games, Rodgers assured fans that he is fully recovered from his Achilles injury and is ready to hit the field. The 40-year-old quarterback, who was acquired by the Jets from the Green Bay Packers last season, missed the entirety of the 2023 campaign due to his injury. Throughout the offseason, Rodgers has been rehabbing and preparing for his return to the field.

The Jets are counting on Rodgers, along with other key players like Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, and Mike Williams, to stay healthy and lead the team to success. New York made significant moves to acquire Rodgers, giving up draft picks and swapping players, with high hopes for his impact on the team. However, Rodgers’ injury early in his Jets debut dashed those hopes, forcing the team to rely on other quarterbacks like Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian, and Tim Boyle.

This offseason, the Jets revamped their quarterback lineup, bringing in veteran backup Tyrod Taylor and drafting Jordan Travis to support Rodgers. Travis is currently recovering from an ankle injury, so Taylor, along with undrafted free agents Andrew Peasley and Adrian Martinez, will take on more reps during the preseason games.

Fans can expect to see Rodgers take the field in the Jets’ Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers, marking his return to action. The matchup will also kick off this year’s “Monday Night Football” schedule, adding to the excitement surrounding Rodgers’ comeback and the Jets’ season ahead.
