Mika Zibanejad, Jimmy Vesey, and Vincent Trocheck each found the back of the net in the second period, leading the New York Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks. This win was a much-needed one for the Rangers after their recent loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
Igor Shesterkin was solid between the pipes for the Rangers, making 25 saves in the game. The team was able to bounce back and secure their fourth win in the last six games, showing resilience and determination on the ice.
The Sharks, on the other hand, struggled to keep up with the Rangers’ offensive push. Timothy Liljegren and Fabian Zetterlund managed to score for San Jose, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Rangers’ lead. Mackenzie Blackwood did his best in goal, stopping 32 shots throughout the game.
Liljegren opened the scoring for the Sharks early in the game, but Zibanejad quickly responded to tie the game in the second period. Vesey and Trocheck then added two more goals for the Rangers, putting them ahead. Zetterlund managed to close the gap with a late power-play goal, but it wasn’t sufficient to turn the tide in the Sharks’ favor.
It was an emotional night for Barclay Goodrow, who received a warm ovation from the crowd. Goodrow, a former Rangers player, was recognized for his contributions during his time with the team. On the other side, the Rangers faced a scare when Filip Chytil had to leave the game after a collision on the ice. Chytil, who has a history of concussions, did not return for the third period.
Shesterkin’s stellar performance in goal, including crucial saves against Goodrow, played a significant role in the Rangers’ victory. Additionally, Artemi Panarin continued his impressive season, tallying an assist and leading the team with 23 points.
Looking ahead, the Sharks will be heading to Pittsburgh for their next game, while the Rangers will be traveling to Seattle to kick off a four-game road trip. Both teams will be looking to build on their performances and secure more wins as the season progresses.
