The New Jersey Devils outplayed the Detroit Red Wings in a 5-4 victory, taking advantage of Detroit’s struggling penalty kill. The Devils managed to score three power-play goals, with Dougie Hamilton, Timo Meier, and Jack Hughes finding the back of the net.
New Jersey capitalized on the Red Wings’ weak penalty kill, as Detroit has the lowest penalty kill percentage in the NHL. Stefan Noesen and Nico Hischier also scored for the Devils, who have been performing well lately, winning four of their last five games.
Lucas Raymond, Vladimir Tarasenko, Justin Holl, and Tyler Motte scored for the Red Wings in a losing effort. Both goalies, Jacob Markstrom for the Devils and Cam Talbot for the Red Wings, made 25 saves each in a closely contested game.
The Devils have been strong on the road, winning five of their last six away games. Hischier and Hamilton have been key contributors to the team’s success, with Hischier scoring four goals in the past three games and Hamilton netting three goals in the last five games.
Cam Talbot celebrated his 500th NHL game, while Tyler Motte and Justin Holl scored their first goals of the season for the Red Wings. Unfortunately, Patrick Kane and Alex Lyon were sidelined due to injuries for Detroit.
The game turned in the first period when Hamilton scored on a power play to get the Devils on the board. Meier then scored on another power play, tying the game at 2-2. Raymond continued his hot streak, scoring in his fifth consecutive game, a rare feat for a Red Wings player in recent years.
Looking ahead, the Devils will face off against Washington, while the Red Wings will host Vancouver in their upcoming games. It was a hard-fought battle between the two teams, with the Devils ultimately coming out on top with their strong power-play performance.
