New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is eager to leave the 2023 season behind him, where he struggled after showing promise in 2022. After undergoing ACL surgery just eight months ago, head coach Brian Daboll has given Jones the green light to join full team drills with no restrictions, as reported by CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones.

During the 2023 season, Jones saw a decline in his performance, dropping from 6.2 yards per attempt to 5.7, and his interception rate increased to a career-worst 3.8%. He only managed to throw two touchdown passes in six games while dealing with six interceptions. His passer rating dropped to 70.5, and his sack rate reached a career-high of 15.8%. The season took a turn for the worse when he tore his ACL in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite the Giants’ efforts to potentially replace Jones in the draft, he is likely to start the 2024 season as their quarterback, pending a successful recovery from his ACL injury. Jones expressed confidence in his recovery progress, stating that the process has been smooth without any major setbacks, as reported by the New York Post. He mentioned that he is currently able to run, cut, and perform all necessary activities, indicating his readiness for training camp.

While the Giants may not be considered top contenders in the upcoming season, especially compared to teams like the Eagles and Cowboys, Jones maintains high expectations for himself and the team. External expectations do not seem to affect his drive and determination to succeed.

“I expect a lot from myself and the team, regardless of external factors,” Jones stated. His focus remains on preparing for the upcoming season and delivering improved performance on the field. With his recent clearance for full team drills, Jones is looking forward to making a strong comeback and leading the Giants to a successful 2024 campaign.
