The Jacksonville Jaguars and the city have come to an agreement on a $1.4 billion project to build the “Stadium of the Future.” This project will ensure that the Jaguars remain in Jacksonville for many years to come. Both the franchise and the city will contribute $625 million each to the project, with an additional $150 million coming from Jacksonville to prepare EverBank Stadium for construction starting in 2026. Importantly, there will be no new taxes imposed to fund the rebuild.
Construction is scheduled to start after the 2025 season. In 2026, the Jaguars will play in front of a reduced capacity crowd, and in 2027, they will host home games in either Gainesville or Orlando. The new EverBank Stadium design was unveiled last summer, featuring a fourfold increase in width compared to the current stadium. It will offer interactive social areas and food options that showcase the local cuisine. Additionally, the stadium will incorporate cutting-edge technology and a shade canopy to reduce heat retention by 70%.
The team has outlined several improvements in the stadium design, including shade for all seats, a 360-degree concourse, wider concourses, increased space for football operations, better vertical transportation, and updated HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. The Jaguars, who were once rumored to potentially relocate to London, have committed to staying in Jacksonville for the long term with this new stadium plan, securing their presence in the market for the next three decades.
Rather than constructing a new stadium, the franchise opted to renovate EverBank Stadium after determining its structural feasibility. This decision also positions Jacksonville as a potential host for future Super Bowls, a prestigious event the city has not hosted since 2005. As part of the renovation plan, the Jaguars have built a state-of-the-art, 125,000-square-foot sports performance center, which includes various facilities such as locker rooms, meeting rooms, training areas, medical support facilities, and more.
The new training complex will feature two full-size grass practice fields and a full-size indoor practice field. This complex, along with the renovated stadium, highlights the Jaguars’ dedication to the city and its fans. The franchise’s commitment to Jacksonville is further reinforced by the decision to invest in these state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring that the team remains a vital part of the community for years to come.
