Group play in the Paris Olympics men’s basketball tournament is coming to an end, and one of the top contenders for a medal is Canada. They finished at the top of Group A with a perfect 3-0 record after a hard-fought 88-85 victory over Spain.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the star of the show for Canada, scoring 20 points and making a highlight play by stealing the ball from Spain’s Sergio Llull and scoring an easy layup, reminiscent of Michael Jordan. Despite Spain’s late rally in the fourth quarter, Canada managed to hold on to the lead.
RJ Barrett sealed the win for Canada with a crucial 3-pointer in the final seconds of the game. Andrew Nembhard and Dillon Brooks also made significant contributions to Canada’s victory, scoring 18 and 13 points respectively.
On the other hand, Dario Brizuela led Spain in scoring with 15 points, followed by Llull’s 13 points. Juancho Hernangomez, Jaime Pradilla, and Santi Aldama also put up double-digit points for Spain in a valiant effort to stay in the tournament.
In another game, Greece kept their hopes alive in group play with a 77-71 win over Australia. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way for Greece with 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Thomas Walkup and Vasilis Toliopoulos also made significant contributions to Greece’s victory.
To advance to the knockout round, Greece will need Serbia to defeat South Sudan by two or more points. Australia, on the other hand, secured their spot in the next round thanks to Canada’s win over Spain.
