Ashton Jeanty Reflects on Heisman Campaign in ESPN Interview
Ashton Jeanty, the star running back from Boise State, recently sat down with ESPN to discuss his feelings about narrowly missing out on the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Despite an exceptional season, Jeanty finished as the runner-up to Colorado’s Travis Hunter, sparking a mix of disappointment and determination in the young athlete.
Jeanty expressed his belief that his outstanding performance throughout the 2024 season should have secured him the coveted Heisman Trophy. However, he graciously acknowledged Hunter’s victory, stating, “I really felt like I should’ve walked away with the award, but kudos to Travis for winning. But yeah, it’s simple as that. Work harder, go harder.”
The voting results revealed a close race between the two talented players, with Hunter ultimately clinching the Heisman with 552 first-place votes and 2,231 points. Jeanty closely followed with 309 first-place votes and 2,017 points, marking one of the closest margins of victory since 2009.
Jeanty’s remarkable season saw him amass an impressive 2,497 rushing yards, bringing him within striking distance of breaking Barry Sanders’ long-standing single-season rushing record of 2,628 yards set in 1988. The upcoming College Football Playoff presents Jeanty with an opportunity to achieve this milestone, as the Broncos are set to face the winner of the SMU-Penn State game in a CFP quarterfinal at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31.
Winning the Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award earlier in the week, Jeanty expressed being “100%” motivated by his Heisman snub, signaling that this setback would only fuel his determination to achieve even greater success in the future.
With more challenges and victories on the horizon, Ashton Jeanty’s journey continues to inspire fans and fellow athletes alike, showcasing the resilience and drive that define a true champion.
