The Philadelphia Eagles continued their training camp at the NovaCare Complex with Day 3 being a hot one. The team remained in the acclimation phase of camp as they prepare to put on pads next week. Despite the sun beating down, the humidity was not as high as it had been earlier in the week. The Eagles had their longest practice so far, lasting 90 minutes with plenty of plays and depth chart movements.
One notable observation from the practice was the injury to Tyler Steen, who started at right guard but disappeared during the third-team session. Darian Kinnard stepped in with the first team at right guard while Mekhi Becton moved to right tackle. Steen walked off under his own power with an undisclosed injury, leaving his competition with Becton for the starting right guard position in question.
Players were seen trying out guardian caps during practice, potentially preparing to wear them during games as the NFL allowed their use starting in 2024. Several skill-position players, including A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, were spotted wearing the guardian caps during drills.
The wide receivers had a mixed day with some drops in the ladder drill, but they made up for it during team drills. Britain Covey made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch in 7-on-7 drills, while DeVonta Smith had the catch of the day in 11-on-11s with an impressive deep ball reception over Kelee Ringo.
In terms of the depth chart, Landon Dickerson returned to left guard, Parris Campbell was the WR3, and Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean started at linebacker. Quinyon Mitchell stood out as the slot cornerback, while Kelee Ringo lined up as the opposite cornerback to Darius Slay.
During 1-on-1 battles, there were some exciting matchups between wide receivers and cornerbacks. Parris Campbell beat Darius Slay on a deep route, while DeVonta Smith made a high-point catch over Isaiah Rodgers. Quinyon Mitchell also had a notable performance, beating A.J. Brown on an out route.
Overall, some standout observations from the practice included Jalen Hurts showcasing his speed and agility, Jalen Carter making an impact on the defensive line, Saquon Barkley looking elusive, Quinyon Mitchell adapting well to the defense, and Jalyx Hunt showing promise as a rookie third-round pick.
The Eagles training camp continues to be full of action and competition as players vie for starting positions and showcase their skills ahead of the upcoming season.
