The San Francisco 49ers, man, they’ve been busy this offseason locking down their key players with some massive contract extensions. First, they took care of business on the offensive side of things with Brock Purdy and George Kittle getting some new deals. Now, it looks like they’re turning their attention to the defensive side of the ball, starting with superstar linebacker Fred Warner.

According to sources, the 49ers are super close to finalizing a multi-year agreement with Warner. This extension is expected to make Warner the highest-paid inside linebacker in the NFL, which is pretty huge. I mean, this guy is a beast on the field, racking up over 100 tackles in every single season he’s played in the league. It’s no wonder they want to keep him around for the long haul.

The current highest-paid inside linebacker in the league is Roquan Smith of the Ravens, who’s pulling in $100 million over five years, averaging $20 million per year. Now, it’s not totally clear yet if Warner’s deal will be for five years too, but you can bet that his average annual value is gonna be more than that $20 million mark. And if the 49ers decide to lock him in for five years, he’s probably gonna blow past that $100 million value. Warner is a legend in the making, and soon he’ll have the record-setting contract to prove it. I mean, who wouldn’t want to pay top dollar for a player like that, right?
