The Minnesota Twins made a roster move on Friday, recalling right-handed pitcher Josh Winder from Triple-A St. Paul. In a corresponding decision, the team sent down rookie right-hander David Festa to the Saints.
Winder, who is 27 years old, has had a decent season in Triple-A, posting a 2-0 record with a 4.78 ERA. He has accumulated eight walks and 28 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings pitched in 15 games for the Saints. The Twins drafted Winder in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB Draft from Virginia Military Institute. Since his major league debut in 2022, Winder has recorded a 6-7 record with one save, a 4.51 ERA, 32 walks, and 75 strikeouts in 34 games, including 11 starts, over the past two seasons.
On the other hand, Festa, a 24-year-old rookie, made his major league debut earlier this season on June 27. Unfortunately, he struggled in his limited action, going 1-1 with a high 10.80 ERA. Festa only issued one walk while recording eight strikeouts over 10 innings pitched in two starts.
The Twins’ decision to bring up Winder and send down Festa shows their commitment to finding the right combination of players to help the team succeed. Winder’s experience in the major leagues and his recent success in Triple-A make him a valuable addition to the pitching staff. On the other hand, Festa will have the opportunity to continue developing his skills and work on improving his performance in the minor leagues.
This roster move is part of the ongoing strategy of the Twins to evaluate their players and make adjustments as needed to strengthen the team. As the season progresses, fans can expect to see more changes as the Twins strive to compete at the highest level. The team’s dedication to player development and improvement bodes well for their future success and performance in upcoming games.
