A Greenville man named Aaron T. Simmons has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking women in South Carolina. This sentence comes after he pleaded guilty to the charges last November. The 26-year-old used physical beatings, threats, intimidation, and psychological manipulation to force three individuals to partake in commercial sex acts over a year-long period starting in August 2019. The incidents took place in the Greenville area.

In addition to trafficking adults, Simmons also provided a 17-year-old minor for commercial sex acts between August and November 2019. This cruel behavior led to a significant prison sentence, reflecting the severity of Simmons’ actions. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke emphasized the brutality inflicted on the victims, including a minor, over many months. The exploitation of victims in this manner strips away their freedom, dignity, and sense of security, leaving lasting scars. Such despicable behavior is not tolerated in our society.

Both Clarke and U.S. Attorney for South Carolina, Adair Boroughs, expressed their dedication to eradicating sex trafficking. They are committed to utilizing all available resources to combat human trafficking in South Carolina. Despite attempts to reach Simmons’ attorney for comment, they were unavailable for a response.

Sex trafficking is a serious crime that preys on the vulnerable and exploits individuals for profit. It is crucial for law enforcement agencies and the community to work together to identify and prevent such heinous acts. Educating the public about the signs of human trafficking, providing support for victims, and holding perpetrators accountable are essential steps in the fight against this illicit industry.

It is important to raise awareness about the prevalence of sex trafficking in our communities and to encourage individuals to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. By working together, we can help put an end to the exploitation of vulnerable individuals and ensure that perpetrators like Aaron T. Simmons are held accountable for their crimes.
