The Baltimore Orioles made a roster move by placing right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes on the paternity list. This means Burnes will be able to miss up to three games to be with his family after the birth of his child. In his most recent start, Burnes pitched seven strong innings against the Texas Rangers, giving up only one run on nine hits. This performance improved his record to 9-3 for the season and lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.28. Burnes, who won the National League Cy Young Award in 2021 while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, is now in his first season with the Orioles.
To fill Burnes’ spot on the roster, the Orioles recalled left-handed pitcher Matt Krook from Triple-A Norfolk. Krook, 29 years old, will have the opportunity to make his debut with the Orioles during Burnes’ absence. In his previous major league experience with the New York Yankees last season, Krook struggled, giving up 11 runs in just four relief appearances. However, in Triple-A this season, Krook has shown more consistency, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.71 ERA in 26 relief outings.
This roster move not only allows Burnes to be present for the birth of his child but also gives Krook a chance to prove himself at the major league level. The Orioles will be looking for solid performances from Krook to help bolster their pitching staff during Burnes’ brief absence. It will be interesting to see how Krook adapts to the competition in the big leagues and if he can make a positive impact for the team. Stay tuned for updates on Burnes’ return to the Orioles’ rotation and Krook’s performance in his debut with the team.
