Rookie Rece Hinds had an impressive game for the Cincinnati Reds as they secured a 12-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Hinds, who hit a 449-foot home run in his major league debut on Monday, followed it up with a 458-foot blast in his second game. This made him the first player in MLB history to record five extra-base hits in his first two career games. Despite coming close to hitting for the cycle, Hinds struck out in the eighth inning.
In addition to Hinds’ stellar performance, Tyler Stephenson, Will Benson, and Spencer Steer also contributed to the Reds’ offensive onslaught. Stephenson hit a home run and collected three hits, while Benson’s three-run homer and Steer’s solo shot added to the team’s run total. On the other side, Brenton Doyle hit a pair of home runs for the Rockies, including a 442-foot blast.
The Reds got off to a strong start, scoring five runs in the second inning off Rockies starter Cal Quantrill. However, a 44-minute rain delay interrupted the game and seemed to affect Reds’ starter Nick Lodolo’s rhythm. Despite the setback, Lodolo pitched well early on, striking out the side in the first inning.
After the rain delay, Lodolo gave up some runs in the fourth inning as the Rockies mounted a comeback. Doyle and Michael Toglia hit back-to-back home runs to cut into the Reds’ lead. However, the Reds’ bullpen held strong, with Nick Martinez pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win in relief.
Overall, it was a solid performance by the Reds, who have now won all five meetings against the Rockies this season. The Rockies, on the other hand, dropped to 0-2 on their current road trip and have struggled on the road all season, with a 12-33 record away from home, the worst in the National League.
