Oakland Athletics executive Sandy Dean addressed the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, discussing the team’s plans for the new stadium in Las Vegas. Dean mentioned that the club intends to use $350 million of the $380 million in public funds allocated for the project, leaving $30 million unused. While the A’s plan to finance $300 million of the stadium cost, they have not secured any lenders yet.

Dean shared that there has been significant interest from various companies looking to contribute to the project. The remaining $800 million needed for the $1.5 billion stadium would come from private equity investments. Additionally, a 30-year non-relocation agreement was up for discussion at the board meeting.

The A’s proposed playing up to seven games over two years at international locations or special U.S. sites, like the Field of Dreams in Iowa, instead of in Las Vegas. However, no more than four of these games would be held outside Las Vegas in a single year. The team aims to have the 33,000-seat ballpark ready for the 2028 season.

To supplement the public funding approved by the Nevada Legislature and Governor Joe Lombardo, the A’s have enlisted the help of Galatioto Sports Partners to attract investors. This season marks the A’s final one in Oakland before moving to a Triple-A stadium in West Sacramento for the next three seasons, with a potential fourth season option. During their stay in West Sacramento, the A’s will share the facility with the River Cats, the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate.

The A’s relocation to Las Vegas presents an exciting opportunity for the team and the city. The plans for the new stadium and the financing details show a significant investment in the future of the franchise. With the potential for international games and partnerships with private equity investors, the A’s are taking steps to ensure their long-term success in their new home. The collaboration with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority and the support from various companies indicate a promising start to this new chapter for the Oakland Athletics.
