Kemba Walker is making a comeback to the Charlotte Hornets, but this time as a player enhancement coach. After announcing his retirement from the NBA, Walker, who holds the record for the most points scored in Charlotte’s history, has joined new head coach Charles Lee’s staff.
In addition to Walker, the Hornets have brought on board several other assistants, including Lamar Skeeter, Josh Longstaff, Chris Jent, Blaine Mueller, Ryan Frazier, Matt Hill, and Jermaine Bucknor, as Lee finalizes his coaching staff.
As a four-time NBA All-Star and a member of the All-NBA third team in 2018-19, Walker has made significant contributions to the Hornets both on and off the court. He holds records for field goals, 3-pointers, free throws, and minutes played, while also ranking second in assists and third in steals. Despite his retirement from the NBA after 12 years, Walker recently achieved success by winning the French League championship with AS Monaco this season.
Moreover, the Hornets have added Zach Peterson as an assistant coach and director of player development, along with Austin Vereen and Zach Thomas as video coordinators. Reggie Cameron has been hired as an associate video coordinator and two-way enhancement coach, while John Bowen continues in his role as a video coordinator.
It is evident that the Hornets are focusing on enhancing player development and utilizing the expertise of former players like Walker to guide and mentor the team. With a strong coaching staff in place, the Hornets are looking to build on their success and continue to strive for excellence in the upcoming seasons. Walker’s return to Charlotte signifies a new chapter in his career, as he transitions from a player to a coach, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.
The addition of Walker and other experienced coaches to the Hornets’ staff highlights the team’s commitment to growth and development. As they prepare for the upcoming season, the Hornets are poised to make a mark in the NBA with a talented roster and a dedicated coaching staff leading the way. Fans can expect an exciting journey ahead as the team works towards achieving their goals and making a strong impact in the league.
