Houston Astros veteran second baseman, José Altuve, has made the decision to opt out of the upcoming 2024 MLB All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas. This move opens up the opportunity for the Texas Rangers’ Marcus Semien to take his place at second base for the American League in his home ballpark. Altuve, who is a nine-time All-Star and the 2017 AL MVP, has not participated in the All-Star Game since 2018. In the past, he has withdrawn from the game due to minor injuries when named to the AL All-Star team in both 2021 and 2022.

As a replacement for Altuve, Twins infielder Willi Castro has been added to the AL All-Star roster. Despite not being present at the All-Star Game, Altuve continues to showcase his skills as one of baseball’s most reliable hitters in his 14th MLB season. Maintaining a batting average of .309 with an OPS of .823, Altuve has recorded 13 home runs and 41 RBIs so far this season.

The 2024 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, airing on FOX and the FOX Sports App. Fans can tune in to watch Marcus Semien step in at second base for the American League, representing the Texas Rangers in his home ballpark.
