Nikolaj Ehlers had an impressive game, scoring a hat trick as the Winnipeg Jets secured a 6-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This win keeps the Jets undefeated on the road, with a record of 6-0-0, marking their best start in franchise history.
In addition to Ehlers’ stellar performance, Mason Appleton and Gabriel Vilardi also contributed goals for the Jets. Josh Morrissey chipped in with a power-play goal and an assist, further solidifying Winnipeg’s lead. Goalie Eric Comrie made 20 saves to help secure the win for his team.
The Blue Jackets, on the other hand, struggled to keep up with the Jets’ pace throughout the game. Despite goals from Sean Kuraly and Sean Monahan, Columbus was outplayed by Winnipeg and found themselves on the defensive for most of the night. Goalie Elvis Merzlikins made 37 saves but couldn’t prevent the Jets from dominating the game.
One key moment in the game was Monahan’s power-play goal in the second period, which briefly brought the Blue Jackets within one goal of the Jets. However, Ehlers quickly responded with his third goal of the night, extinguishing any hopes of a Columbus comeback.
The Jets’ power-play unit continued to impress, maintaining a streak of scoring with a man advantage in each of their last four games. Their success on the power play has been a significant factor in their strong start to the season, with a league-best 14 goals on the power play out of 31 opportunities.
Looking ahead, the Jets will face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, aiming to extend their winning streak. The Blue Jackets, on the other hand, will travel to Washington to take on the Capitals on Saturday in hopes of bouncing back from their loss to the Jets.
