So, here’s the deal. The Carolina Hurricanes are switching things up in the goalie department for Game 3 against the Florida Panthers. Frederik Andersen is out, and Pyotr Kochetkov is in. Coach Rod Brind’Amour made the call after Andersen’s shaky performance in Game 2, where he let in four goals on just 16 shots. Ouch.

Why the change, you ask? Well, Brind’Amour said they needed to “change the vibe a little bit.” Kochetkov, a 25-year-old who started 47 games in the regular season, is getting his shot to shine. Andersen, on the other hand, seems to have hit a rough patch against the Panthers. His play in the first two games just wasn’t cutting it, even though Brind’Amour didn’t exactly blame him for the losses.

Andersen’s numbers have taken a nosedive compared to his solid performance in the earlier rounds of the playoffs. In the games against the Devils and Capitals, he was a shining star with a .937 save percentage. But against the Panthers, he’s struggling, allowing a whopping nine goals on just 36 shots. Yikes. If he keeps this up, it could spell the end for the Hurricanes this season. Not a great situation to be in, that’s for sure.

As for Kochetkov, he may not have the best playoff stats, but he’s had some impressive moments in the past. In his first postseason start against the Bruins in 2023, he held his own with 30 saves in a 5-2 win. So, maybe he’s the spark the Hurricanes need to turn things around in Game 3. Who knows? It’s all up in the air at this point.

All eyes will be on Kochetkov as he takes the net for the Hurricanes on Saturday night. Can he rise to the occasion and help Carolina claw their way back into the series? Or will the Panthers continue their dominance and push the Hurricanes to the brink of elimination? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure — it’s going to be a nail-biter of a game. Let’s see if Kochetkov can be the hero the Hurricanes need right now.
