Cat Ferguson, Felix Barrow, and Fran Brown made Great Britain proud by claiming global titles at the UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich. The British team took home a total of nine medals on day four of the competition.
In the women’s junior individual time trial (ITT), 18-year-old Cat Ferguson showed her dominance by finishing in 23 minutes and 49.72 seconds, securing the gold medal. She outperformed Slovakia’s Viktoria Chladonova by a significant margin of 34.30 seconds. Another British talent, Imogen Wolff, also impressed by winning the bronze medal in the same event.
Felix Barrow showcased his skills in the men’s T2 individual time trial, crossing the finish line in 16 minutes and 28.66 seconds to claim the gold medal. He managed to outpace Belgium’s Tim Celen by 34.84 seconds, securing the top spot on the podium.
Fran Brown, a silver medallist at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, continued her winning streak by defending her women’s C1 ITT world title with a time of 29 minutes and 27.93 seconds. She led a British one-two victory by finishing 4 minutes and 9.42 seconds ahead of her teammate Katie Toft. In the C2 event, Daphne Schrager won the silver medal, while Amelia Cass took home the bronze.
Paralympic champion Finn Graham added to Great Britain’s medal tally by securing the silver medal in the men’s C3 ITT, finishing just 2.11 seconds behind French champion Florian Bouziani. Ben Watson narrowly missed out on a podium finish, coming in fourth place. Matthew Robertson clinched the bronze medal in the C2 category, further highlighting the British team’s talent and dedication.
Callum Russell, making his World Championship debut, finished in fourth place in the men’s H4 ITT, showing promise for future competitions. Cat Ferguson, a rising star in British cycling, expressed her joy and gratitude after winning her first rainbow jersey.
