The documentary, titled “Sign Stealer,” is part of the platform’s “Untold” docuseries and is set to be released on Aug. 27, just days before Michigan’s quest to defend their national championship title.
The film will provide Stalions with the opportunity to share his perspective on the scandal that rocked the college football world. Stalions, who was accused of orchestrating Michigan’s sign-stealing scheme by purchasing tickets to future opponents’ games, worked as an analyst for the program from 2021 to 2023. Following the allegations, he was suspended and later resigned from his position.
While the documentary will focus on Stalions’ role in the scandal, it remains unclear whether other former or current members of Michigan’s program will participate. The film will be directed by Micah Brown, shedding light on the events that led to Stalions’ controversial actions and the subsequent fallout within the program.
In response to the scandal, both the Big Ten and the NCAA launched investigations into Michigan’s practices. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for the final three games of the regular season by the Big Ten, a decision he ultimately accepted after initially appealing. The NCAA’s findings from its investigation have yet to be released to the public.
Despite the controversy surrounding the program, Michigan went on to achieve a perfect 15-0 season and secure the national championship with a decisive victory over Washington. NCAA president Charlie Baker expressed his belief that Michigan’s victory was legitimate, stating that the team was the superior competitor in the College Football Playoff.
While Stalions has refrained from commenting on the scandal since its exposure, Harbaugh made a career move to the NFL in January by accepting the head coaching position with the Los Angeles Chargers. The upcoming documentary promises to offer viewers a comprehensive look into the events surrounding the sign-stealing scandal and its impact on Michigan’s football program.
