So, we had Charles Leclerc leading the way in both Friday free practice sessions at the Monaco GP in Monte Carlo. Max Verstappen was on fire last weekend at the Emilia-Romagna GP, so everyone was eager to see how McLaren would respond. However, it was Ferrari’s very own Charles Leclerc who stole the show at his home track, leaving Max Verstappen behind in FP1 and then finishing ahead of Oscar Piastri and his teammate Lewis Hamilton in FP2.
What’s coming up next? Well, we’ve got FP3 at 7:30 a.m. ET and qualifying at 11 a.m. ET tomorrow before the big race on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. You can catch all the action live on The Athletic. If you have any burning questions or comments, feel free to shoot them over to live@theathletic.com.
Getting back to the track action, it seems like things are heating up for Aston Martin as Fernando Alonso sits at P7 after FP2. Will they be able to hold their ground in the final free practice and qualifying sessions tomorrow? We’ll just have to wait and see. It’s always exciting to see a star like Alonso back in the mix.
Moving on to the FP2 results, we’ve got Yuki Tsunoda trailing behind Leclerc by 0.717s, followed by George Russell, Carlos Sainz, Gabriel Bortoleto, Oliver Bearman, Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly, Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon, and Franco Colapinto bringing up the rear. Looks like it’s not the best day for Jack Doohan’s replacement.
As the cars wrapped up FP2, Charles Leclerc dominated the session with a time of 1:11.355s, followed closely by Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris, Liam Lawson, Isack Hadjar, Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon, Kimi Antonelli, and Max Verstappen rounding out the top 10. Looks like there’s some fierce competition brewing on the track.
It’s always interesting to see how things play out on race day, especially after such an intense qualifying session. Will Leclerc be able to maintain his lead and secure a pole position like last year? The anticipation is building as we inch closer to the main event.
Despite the minor setbacks and challenges faced by some drivers during the practice sessions, the true test lies ahead on race day. It’s anyone’s game at the iconic Monaco GP, and we can’t wait to see who will come out on top. So buckle up, folks, it’s going to be a thrilling ride.
