During the Euro 2024 semi-final match between the Netherlands and England in Dortmund, a group of Netherlands fans reportedly attacked England supporters in bars, resulting in minor injuries to five people. The UK police confirmed the incident and mentioned that the Netherlands fans attempted to steal flags during the altercation.

While most of the Netherlands fans were in Dortmund to enjoy the game peacefully, there were some groups of supporters who were considered a potential risk. The UK police, in collaboration with local authorities in Germany, are working to ensure the safety and security of all fans attending the match, which is scheduled to kick off at 20:00 BST.

A statement released by the UK Football Policing Unit addressed the situation, stating, “We are aware of some reports and videos circulating of disorder in Dortmund. It appears that there have been several instances of Dutch fans attacking England fans in bars and attempting to steal flags. We are also aware that in addition to the tens of thousands of Dutch fans there to enjoy the game, there are groups of risk supporters who have travelled to Dortmund from the Netherlands.”

Reports indicate that a significant number of Netherlands fans, up to 80,000, have made the journey to Dortmund to support their team, outnumbering the 40,000 England fans in attendance. The winner of the semi-final match will advance to face Spain in the final on Sunday.

The clash between the Netherlands and England fans serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and security of all individuals attending sporting events. While the majority of fans are there to support their teams and enjoy the game, it is crucial to address and prevent any instances of violence or disorder that may arise.

Authorities are working diligently to identify and manage any potential risks posed by certain groups of supporters to maintain a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere for all spectators. As the excitement builds towards the Euro 2024 final, efforts to promote sportsmanship and respect among fans from different nations remain a top priority.
