Jordan Eberle came through for the Seattle Kraken with an overtime goal just 48 seconds into the extra period, securing a 2-1 victory against the Calgary Flames. This win marked Eberle’s fifth goal in six games since taking on the role of captain for the Kraken.
The Flames took the lead with Blake Coleman’s power-play goal late in the first period, but the Kraken managed to even the score during the second period with Chandler Stephenson’s power-play goal at the 12:25 mark.
Despite Calgary’s aggressive play throughout the game, as evidenced by their 31 hits and 16 blocked shots compared to the Kraken, Seattle had their chances. The Kraken had 23 shots on goal, with some key opportunities that went unconverted. Oliver Bjorkstrand, for example, missed a wide-open net on a two-on-one chance in the first period.
In the third period, Calgary turned up the pressure between the 14:26 and 16:23 marks, firing a barrage of shots at Seattle goalkeeper Joey Daccord. However, Daccord stood tall, making 21 saves throughout the game to keep the Kraken in contention. His counterpart, Dan Vladar of the Flames, also made 21 saves on the night.
Seattle struggled on the power play, only converting 1 out of 6 opportunities. Despite outshooting Calgary 11-6 in the third period, the Kraken couldn’t find the back of the net. Their power play efficiency so far this season stands at 14.3%, placing them 20th in the league in that category.
Looking ahead, Calgary will face off against Pittsburgh, while Seattle will host Colorado, both games scheduled for Tuesday night.
