Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is facing an extended period on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the team’s recent game against the Atlanta Falcons. The injury occurred late in the third quarter, following a 5-yard scramble by Prescott. Despite initially feeling something unusual after the play, the severity of the injury became more apparent as he attempted to continue playing.
Prescott, who had been having a solid game up until that point, was replaced by Cooper Rush for the remainder of the match. Rush, who has previous experience as a starter for the Cowboys, stepped in and managed to complete 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards with a touchdown.
In addition to Prescott’s injury, star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also dealing with a shoulder issue and is set to undergo an MRI. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed optimism that Lamb would be able to continue playing despite the injury.
Prescott’s absence will be a significant blow to the Cowboys, who are currently struggling with a 3-5 record for the season. The team will now have to rely on Rush as the starting quarterback, with Trey Lance as his backup.
This injury adds to a series of setbacks that Prescott has faced in recent years, including missing games in 2020 due to an ankle injury and sitting out one game in 2021 with a calf strain. Despite these challenges, Prescott had been performing well and had started 36 consecutive games prior to his latest injury.
The Cowboys will need to regroup and adjust their game plan in the absence of Prescott to stay competitive in the league. It remains to be seen how long Prescott will be sidelined and how the team will fare without their star quarterback leading the charge.
