Months after the Dallas police announced they would not pursue charges, a Collin County judge has cleared Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott of all civil claims related to sexual assault allegations made against him in 2017. The accuser, who demanded $100 million to keep from going to the police, had her claims dismissed by Judge Angela Tucker in June. A hearing is set for September to determine if legal action against the accuser is necessary.
Prescott’s attorney, Levi G. McCathern, called the allegations against his client “lies” and part of an “extortion plot.” He emphasized that these false claims detract from the experiences of legitimate sexual assault survivors and hinder societal progress in supporting them.
The accuser initially filed a report with the Dallas Police Department in March, prompting Prescott to file a civil lawsuit and criminal report against her. Despite moving the case to Collin County from Dallas County, the accuser’s attorney has dropped the suit and filed a similar one in the new location for “convenience.”
Prescott’s legal team expressed confidence in the investigations carried out by law enforcement, emphasizing that there was no evidence to support criminal prosecution. They believe that the accusations were fabricated years after the alleged events to extort money from Prescott. The quarterback himself has denied any nonconsensual sexual conduct and expressed empathy for survivors of sexual assault.
Prescott’s lawsuit against the accuser sought over $1 million in monetary relief after she demanded a large sum in exchange for not disclosing the allegations publicly. Reports indicating that the suit was dropped entirely have been clarified by the accuser’s attorney, who stated that she could refile the case in the future.
Despite the legal battles, Prescott remains focused on football and his upcoming contract negotiations with the Cowboys. He affirmed that the lawsuits would not impact the extension talks, highlighting his commitment to the game and his team.
As Prescott continues to navigate the aftermath of the sexual assault allegations, his attorney maintains that the truth is on his side and remains confident in their legal actions. The quarterback’s resilience and determination to clear his name demonstrate his unwavering dedication to his career and principles.
