Boston College is paying tribute to former hockey players Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, as well as Tony Voce, during this season. The Gaudreau brothers and Voce tragically passed away this summer, with the Gaudreau brothers being involved in a fatal accident while biking in New Jersey, and Voce passing away suddenly at the age of 43.

In honor of their legacy, Boston College has planned several tributes throughout the season. Before the home opener against American International College, there will be a moment of silence and a video tribute to commemorate the lives of these three players. The Eagles will also wear uniform patches with the initials of the players, and the boards at the Conte Forum will bear their initials as well.

During the Hockey East opener against Maine on November 8th, all members of the BC team will wear jerseys representing either Voce or one of the Gaudreau brothers during warmups. Additionally, the school’s trophy case has been reconfigured to honor these players and their contributions to the team.

Johnny Gaudreau, also known as “Johnny Hockey,” was a standout player at BC and went on to have a successful career in the NHL, playing for Calgary and Columbus. His younger brother, Matthew, was also a talented player who made significant contributions to the team. Tony Voce, a member of the Eagles’ 2001 national championship team, was recognized as a first team All-American and Hobey Baker Award Finalist in 2004.

The tributes by Boston College are a heartfelt gesture to remember the lives and accomplishments of these players. The hockey community has shown an outpouring of support and grief for the loss of these talented individuals. The impact they had on the sport and on the Boston College community will always be remembered and cherished.
