Jordan Binnington had an outstanding game, making 40 saves as St. Louis dominated Toronto 5-1. This victory marked Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube’s first matchup against the Blues since being fired in December. Berube had previously led St. Louis to their only Stanley Cup win in 2019.
In addition to Binnington’s stellar performance, Dylan Holloway scored two goals to contribute to the Blues’ win. Philip Broberg, Alexandre Texier, and Jake Neighbours also found the back of the net for St. Louis. Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich each had two assists in the game.
Toronto’s lone goal came from Oliver Ekman-Larsson, with Joseph Woll making 22 saves in his first start of the season. The Maple Leafs now hold a 4-4-0 record, while St. Louis improved to 5-3-0.
St. Louis played without center Robert Thomas, who is expected to miss at least six weeks due to an ankle injury. On the other hand, Toronto received strong goaltending from Woll, who stepped in for Anthony Stolarz.
Despite several power play opportunities, Toronto struggled to capitalize and went 0 for 3 on the night, dropping to 3 for 26 on the season. Broberg, acquired from Edmonton, has been a key player for the Blues with seven points in eight games.
Looking ahead, Toronto will face Boston in a two-game trip, while St. Louis is set to play against Montreal in the second game of their trip on Saturday night.
