Texas Rangers rookie Evan Carter is facing a setback as he is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season due to a lumbar sprain in his back. This injury has limited the outfielder to only 45 games so far.
A key player in the Rangers’ World Series victory last year, Carter has been sidelined since May 26. Despite attempts to progress his hitting, he has faced multiple setbacks. General manager Chris Young has revealed that Carter has consulted with specialists who have advised him to undergo a period of rest without engaging in rotational activities to allow his back to heal.
Unfortunately, Young expressed his doubts about Carter’s return in the regular season, emphasizing the need to prioritize the player’s well-being and future with the team. Carter’s current batting average stands at .188 with five home runs and 15 RBIs. His performance has declined recently, with only one RBI in his last 14 games.
Following his placement on the injured list on May 28, Carter was transferred to the 60-day IL on Monday to allow for proper recovery time. Young reassured fans that Carter’s condition is not a long-term concern and that with adequate rest, he will be able to return to the field in due time.
Although Carter is currently following a core program of exercises and stretches to support his back, he is refraining from swinging a bat to avoid further strain. Despite his impressive debut last September, where he displayed a batting average of .306 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 23 games, Carter’s hopes for the AL Rookie of the Year title this season have been put on hold.
