Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Joey Ortiz has been struggling with neck inflammation, causing him to only play in two out of a possible six games from June 26 to Tuesday. As a result, he has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Additionally, right-hander Enoli Paredes has been put on the 15-day IL due to right forearm tendinitis.

To fill the roster spots left by Ortiz and Paredes, the Brewers have called up infielder Vinny Capra and right-hander Janson Junk from Triple-A Nashville. Ortiz, who will turn 26 on July 14, has been dealing with a stiff neck and has only made one start in the past few days. His move to the IL was retroactive to Tuesday. So far this season, he has been batting .269 with 13 doubles, seven home runs, and 28 RBIs in 74 games.

On the other hand, Paredes, 28, has been performing well with a 1-0 record, a 1.08 ERA, one save, eight walks, and 12 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings over 14 appearances. Capra, who will be celebrating his 28th birthday on Sunday, is set to make his Brewers debut. He has previously played in 17 games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023, batting 4-for-23 (.174). Junk, also 28, has appeared in three games this season for Milwaukee, with a 0-0 record, a 9.00 ERA, one walk, and three strikeouts in five innings.

It’s unfortunate to see key players like Ortiz and Paredes sidelined due to injuries, but it’s a great opportunity for Capra and Junk to showcase their skills at the major league level. The Brewers will be looking for these replacements to step up and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming games. We wish Ortiz and Paredes a speedy recovery and hope to see them back on the field soon.
