Months after the Dallas police decided not to pursue charges, a judge in Collin County has cleared Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, of all civil claims related to sexual assault allegations made against him in 2017. According to ABC, the accuser had asked for $100 million in exchange for not going to the police. In June, Judge Angela Tucker dismissed the claims from the accuser, and a hearing is set for September to determine if legal action will be taken against her.
Prescott’s attorney, Levi G. McCathern, called the accuser’s claims “extortion” and stated that they distract from the real trauma faced by legitimate sexual assault survivors. Despite the allegations, Dallas police found insufficient evidence to move forward with charges earlier this year. Prescott’s attorney expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their thorough investigation, reiterating Prescott’s innocence and condemning the accuser’s actions.
Prescott had filed a civil lawsuit and criminal report against the accuser after she filed a report with the Dallas Police Department in March. The accuser’s attorney then moved the case to Collin County, where Prescott had filed his own suit. Despite reports indicating that the accuser had dropped the case entirely, her motion for a “non-suit without prejudice” allows for a possible refiling in the future.
Prescott reiterated his innocence, stating that he has never engaged in nonconsensual sexual conduct. He emphasized his commitment to seeing all perpetrators of such crimes punished and expressed his confidence in the legal actions taken against the accuser. The ongoing legal battles are not expected to impact Prescott’s contract negotiations with the Cowboys as he enters the final season of his current contract.
Prescott’s attorney stressed that the accuser’s claims were baseless and motivated by greed, aiming to profit from false accusations. The legal battles have shed light on the challenges faced by those wrongfully accused of such serious offenses and the importance of a thorough investigation to uncover the truth. Despite the ordeal, Prescott remains focused on his career and family, maintaining his innocence and commitment to justice.
