Isaiah Buggs, a defensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been released by the team following his second arrest this offseason. The 27-year-old player is currently in jail facing charges of domestic violence and burglary related to an incident in Alabama earlier this month. This recent arrest occurred on June 16 when Buggs allegedly entered a woman’s apartment unlawfully and dragged her down the stairs with criminal intent.
This is not the first time Buggs has had legal issues, as he turned himself in last month on misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty. His agent, Trey Robinson, has claimed that Buggs is being targeted in a campaign to shut down his business in Tuscaloosa. Despite being signed to a futures contract by the Chiefs in February, Buggs had not yet played a game for the team, only joining the practice squad in January.
Originally drafted in the sixth round out of Alabama in 2019, Buggs previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions before signing with the Chiefs. His release comes amidst a tumultuous offseason for the team, as wide receiver Rashee Rice is also facing NFL discipline following a high-speed car crash in March that led to multiple criminal charges.
The Chiefs have not publicly commented on Buggs’ release or legal issues, but it is clear that the team is taking a firm stance against off-field misconduct. As the NFL continues to address player behavior and discipline, it is crucial for teams to hold their players accountable for their actions both on and off the field.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Isaiah Buggs and whether he will have the opportunity to continue his football career after these legal troubles. In the meantime, the Chiefs will have to regroup and focus on the upcoming season without the presence of Buggs on their roster.
