Thomas Tuchel has been officially announced as the new head coach for the England national team by the Football Association. The 51-year-old manager will begin his role on Jan. 1, following interim boss Lee Carsley overseeing the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

Tuchel’s appointment comes after an extensive search led by FA chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott, which commenced in July after Gareth Southgate’s departure following England’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. The former Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich manager expressed his pride in leading the England team, highlighting his personal connection to the game in the country and the exciting opportunity to work with a talented group of players.

Joining Tuchel as his assistant coach will be Anthony Barry, with whom he previously worked at Chelsea and Bayern. Barry brings a wealth of experience, having been part of coaching staff for Belgium, Republic of Ireland, and Portugal. Together, Tuchel and Barry aim to make England successful and make the supporters proud.

The FA considers Tuchel’s appointment a significant achievement, as he meets the criteria of having a strong track record in delivering results in the Premier League and international competitions. Tuchel’s impressive resume includes winning 11 major honors, including the 2021 Champions League with Chelsea, where he coached several English internationals.

While the FA reportedly spoke with multiple candidates, including Pep Guardiola, they ultimately secured Tuchel’s services, signing his contract on Oct. 8. FA’s Bullingham expressed excitement over hiring Tuchel and Barry, emphasizing their focus on winning the World Cup in 2026.

Prince William also shared his enthusiasm for the new era of English football under Tuchel’s leadership, wishing the manager success in his new role. With Tuchel’s proven track record and the support of a talented coaching team, England fans can look forward to an exciting journey ahead as the team aims to achieve their goals under the new management.
