Green Bay is like, “Hey NCAA, can we pretty please play in The Basketball Tournament and maybe win a million bucks?” They’re trying to get a waiver to compete in this event instead of going on some international tour. Apparently, NCAA rules are all about allowing college teams to go overseas to play exhibition games every four years. So, Green Bay’s athletic director, Josh Moon, is all about wanting his team to have more chances to play. And get this, if they somehow win the tournament, they’re thinking of donating the prize money to charity. How noble, right?
Last year, Green Bay tried to make the same request, but they got denied. And to top it off, the denial came in too late for them to even appeal it. Talk about bad timing. The team didn’t do so hot last year, going 4-28 under Doug Gottlieb’s coaching. And now, they’re looking to switch things up by joining The Basketball Tournament, which has been around since 2014. It’s mainly for former college or pro players to rep their schools. Carmen’s Crew, a bunch of Ohio State alums, took home the trophy last year. The championship game is set for August 3. So, let’s see if Green Bay can make a comeback this time around.
So, Green Bay is all like, “NCAA, please let us play in The Basketball Tournament!” They’re hoping to snag that $1 million prize and maybe do some good by donating it to charity if they win. Last year, they tried the same thing but got shut down without a chance to appeal. Not the best luck, huh? With a rough season under their belt, they’re hoping to turn things around this year. The Basketball Tournament is all about former players showing off their skills, and last year, Carmen’s Crew from Ohio State took home the win. The championship game is just around the corner on August 3, so let’s see if Green Bay can make a splash this time.
