Warren Moon, a franchise great, is unsure about Cam Ward wearing No. 1 for the Titans. Ward is likely to be the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft for Tennessee. It seems like he really wants to keep rocking the No. 1 jersey when he hits the NFL stage. But Moon is still sitting on the fence about letting Ward wear that number, which got retired way back in 2006. He said, “I’m thinking about it,” and needs more time to mull it over.

Moon was a big deal back in the day, wearing No. 1 for the Houston Oilers before they became the Titans. He was a Pro Bowler nine times, topped the NFL with 33 passing touchdowns, and became the first African-American quarterback in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now he’s 68 and still holds most of the Titans’ passing records. On the other hand, Ward spilled the beans in a TikTok interview that he wants to keep the No. 1 he’s had since 2022. He wore No. 1 at Miami in 2024 and at Incarnate Word before that. But he’s also open to other numbers, depending on where he lands and what’s up for grabs. Ward used to wear No. 7 in college and high school in Texas.

If Moon gives Ward the green light to wear No. 1 in Tennessee, it wouldn’t be a first in the NFL. Last year, the New York Giants let Malik Nabers wear No. 1 after getting the okay from the family of Ray Flaherty, who had the number from 1932-1935.
