Norwegian ski star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde will be sitting out the upcoming 2024-25 season due to the need for another surgery on his injured left shoulder. This decision comes after a previous surgery on his shoulder following a crash in Switzerland nine months ago.

Kilde, a highly successful skier with two Olympic medals and 21 World Cup wins under his belt, had been recovering from a severe crash that resulted in a cut and nerve damage in his right calf, as well as two torn ligaments in his shoulder. Despite returning to skiing in June, he encountered complications in July due to an infection in his shoulder that required additional surgery.

In a statement, Kilde expressed his disappointment at missing the upcoming season but emphasized the necessity of fully addressing his shoulder issues before returning to competition. He acknowledged the mental challenges of facing multiple surgeries and the uncertainty of his future performance.

The Norwegian ski team’s doctor, Trond Floberghagen, confirmed that Kilde’s current medical condition does not allow for his participation in the upcoming season. However, he expressed confidence in Kilde’s commitment to rehabilitation and anticipated his return for the 2025-26 Olympic season.

Kilde’s fellow racers, including three-time overall World Cup champion Marco Odermatt, American legend Lindsey Vonn, and Olympic slalom champion Clement Noel, offered words of encouragement and support to Kilde as he embarks on another phase of his recovery journey.

Despite Kilde’s absence, the World Cup season is set to kick off this weekend in Soelden, Austria, with two giant slalom events scheduled. The season will culminate in the world championships in Austria in February, where skiers from around the globe will compete for top honors in alpine skiing.

As Kilde focuses on his rehabilitation and prepares for a strong comeback, the skiing community stands in solidarity with him, recognizing the physical and mental challenges he faces in his journey back to the slopes. The upcoming season will undoubtedly miss his presence, but his determination and resilience serve as an inspiration to his fellow athletes and fans alike.
