The WNBA playoffs kicked off on Sunday, marking the beginning of the race for the WNBA Finals MVP. To win the Finals MVP award, a team first needs to make it to the Finals. As of Tuesday, the New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces are currently the favorites to win the title.
The Las Vegas Aces, led by reigning Finals MVP A’ja Wilson, are striving to secure their third consecutive WNBA title. Wilson is aiming to achieve back-to-back Finals MVP honors, a feat that has only been accomplished twice in league history. Cynthia Cooper won four consecutive titles from 1997-2000, and Lisa Leslie secured back-to-back wins in 2001-2002.
The current odds for the 2024 WNBA Finals MVP, according to DraftKings Sportsbook as of Sept. 24, are as follows:
Breanna Stewart, Liberty: +300
A’ja Wilson, Aces: +350
Napheesa Collier, Lynx: +425
Sabrina Ionescu, Liberty: +700
Jonquel Jones, Liberty: +1800
Breanna Stewart is leading the oddsboard, with previous wins in 2018 and 2020 with the Seattle Storm. She is also the reigning regular-season MVP. The Liberty, with the best record in the league, are currently ahead 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs against the Atlanta Dream. The Aces, led by A’ja Wilson, are also ahead 1-0 in their first-round matchup against the Storm, while the Lynx are leading 1-0 against the Phoenix Mercury.
In addition to the current favorites, rookie Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever is making waves in her first season. The Fever trail the Connecticut Sun 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Clark has led the Fever to the postseason for the first time since 2016, a significant achievement for the team. If the Fever can advance to the Finals and secure the championship, it will likely be due to the exceptional performances of Caitlin Clark and star guard Kelsey Mitchell.
