Wondering when the Home Run Derby will kick off? The 2024 event is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. ET on Monday, July 15th. You can catch all the excitement live on ESPN, ESPN.com, MLB.com, and MLB.tv. The location for this year’s Home Run Derby is the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
While the full list of participants and their seeding will be revealed in July, we already have one confirmed contender. Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles has announced that he will be taking part in the 2024 derby. However, fans will be disappointed to learn that Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees will not be participating this year. Judge, who won the Derby back in 2017, has opted out of the event.
Another player who has expressed interest in returning to the Home Run Derby is Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani, who underwent elbow surgery last year, is currently rehabilitating and waiting for approval from his medical team before committing to the event. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has raised concerns about Ohtani’s participation due to his recent injury history.
Looking back at the 2023 MLB Home Run Derby, we saw an exciting lineup of participants including the likes of Luis Robert, Pete Alonso, Mookie Betts, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Ultimately, it was Guerrero Jr. who emerged victorious, hitting a total of 25 home runs in the final round to secure the crown.
